A contemporary approach to this rewarding medium. Weekly studies will be developed into compositions in oil. Learn about pigments, binders and mediums, colour, composition and technique.

About the Course
This workshop series will begin with a week of observational drawing that will
reference organic and inorganic objects. From these weekly studies students will develop their own composition to explore in oil. Students will learn about various pigments, binders and mediums as well as colour, composition and technique.
Week 1: Observational drawing and introduction to oil based media
Week 2: Tonal studies with a limited palette
Week 3: Colour studies
Week 4: Technical applications using brushes and palette knife
Week 5: Composition and underpainting for individual project
Week 6: Individual project- tone
Week 7: Individual project- glazes
Week 8: Individual project- detail

What you need to bring
Oil paints (avoid water miscible) Recommended- Paynes Grey, Titanium White,
Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Raw
Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Lamp Black. Optional- Cadmium Red, Violet Deep, Pthalo Green Blue, Black, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre (Recommend brands are Art Spectrum or Winsor & Newton)
Canvas paper pad (multiple sheets of oil painting paper for weekly studies)
1 x stretched canvas or canvas board (for individual project)
Palette knives (stainless steel preferred)
Disposable pallete pad recommended
An old shirt or apron
A couple of old rags
A medium sized jar with lid for storing your medium
Range of brushes including a medium/large flathead brush, approx. 35mm

cartridge paper, odourless solvent and refined linseed oil
