Course Description

Please note $10 material fee is NOT included in the course cost. Together we will learn how to apply the stippling (dot painting) art style using acrylic paint. Stippling is essentially creating an image using lots of dots of various sizes. In addition to learning this, we will also learn how to mix colours and layout your image through a simple step by step process. Then we will create some interesting and fun flower and insect artworks. Dominique’s workshops follow this structure: - A brief introduction to our theme and medium. - Next, a step-by-step tutorial on: techniques, colour theory, composition, creating form, perspective, or drawing. - Then, allowing space for the student to create a personalized scene applying the above tutorial. Gently guiding and encouraging throughout the process. For the ‘Flowers and Insects – Stippling’ workshop, your tutor provide some reference images. Using one acrylic paint we will look at colour mixing (applying a bit of colour theory) and how to use this dot painting style. Then the student will have the space to create a final piece of their flower or insect of choice using the learned techniques above while your tutor assists and guides. There will be a snack break after the tutorial before the final piece. About your tutor: My name is Dominique Sharp. I am an artist that chooses to work with watercolour and acrylic for the majority of my art projects. However, I have explored all kinds of mediums from oil pastels, to moulding pastes, to digital art and so much more. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Illustration and Fine Art. As you can see by those titles, art is my passion and forms a big part of my day-to-day life. I love creating intentional spaces where people can explore the limitless world of art. My goal is to create a stress-free atmosphere; encouraging the individual to create in a way that is unique to them. With an emphasis on the creative journey and discovering the possibilities of the materials, rather than the final outcome. Come create with me, let’s see where it takes us. What to bring: Drink and Snack/lunch. Wear suitable clothing for doing artwork. Material fee: $10, paid in cash to the tutor, will include all materials needed to complete the workshop.
