Course Description
For those who have had an introduction to Oils, this course will extend what you have already learned and teach you the skills to develop your compositions using the techniques of the old masters. The course is suitable for beginner/intermediate students who have some experience with oils. About your Tutor: John Paul has been a professional practicing artist since 1974 and has over 10 years of experience teaching art. John’s work is in the Lawrence Wilson Gallery, UWA; Notre Dame University; Edith Cowan University: Curtin University; New Norcia Gallery; Royal Perth and St John of God Collections and the Kerry Stokes Collection. John won the Mandorla Art Award in 1990 and in 2012. He has recently returned to Perth after living in Darwin. About the Course: In this oil painting course you will extend the basic knowledge you have of oils as you learn the techniques of the Northern Renaissance masters like Ingres, Bosch and Bruegel, including how to create a grisaille underpainting. MATERIAL LIST: Packet wet wipes; · Notebook and pencil · 2 -3 Approx A4 size canvas board · White or Green chalk or light coloured soft pastel and pastel pencil (used when tracing the image onto the board) · Paintbrushes - set of synthetic brushes sized from 1 to 12. These can be inexpensive varieties, found at Bunnings or discount stores · Palette knife · 1-2 large white palettes or large Palette pad (for easy clean up) · Rags & Paper towels for cleaning brushes. · Cotton Rags · Small jar w lid for mixing medium · Large jar w lid to clean brushes and take home with you · Containers for oil mediums · Small bottle of baby oil and soap for cleaning hands OIL PAINTS -Art Spectrum colours Colours to start with: Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Naphthol red, Burnt sienna, Yellow ochre, Naphthol yellow, Viridian Green, Titanium White and Lamp Black Non-toxic odourless solvent – Art Spectrum. Terms and Conditions
A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
