Course Description

Design and make functional or sculptural ceramics using a variety of innovative and traditional techniques. You can follow the tutor’s projects or work independently with guidance as needed. About your Tutor: Kim is a professionally trained potter, having completed the 3-year Diploma of Studio Ceramics at Centra lTAFE in the mid-1990s . She has also completed a Visual Arts degree, majoring in print-making, and is a fully qualified Visual Arts teacher. As well as her own ceramics studio practice She currently teaches and co-ordinates pottery classes at Perth Studio Potters in Cottesloe, where she also works as the technician, firing all student work, making glazes, and so on. She regularly teaches kids pottery classes and is now offering the first term, after school pottery class for kids at Tresillian. Kim has been making pottery for more than 25 years and her work generally reflects Kim’s love of the more traditional forms. About the Course This course is suitable for beginners as well as experienced makers wishing to broaden their horizons. We will explore a variety of techniques, depending on individual projects and group dynamics and they may include wheel - throwing, sculpting, hand - building, texturing and decorative techniques, slip trailing, slab - building, coil - building, press moulding and glazing. Students will be encouraged to experiment, explore and step outside of their comfort zone in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. What you need to bring Please wear old clothes/apron Old towelPersonal clay tools-optional Journal and pencilIdeas, creativity, positive attitude 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙚𝙚 $30 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 Materials Stoneware clay purchased from the tutor at cost. (Approx $20-$25 per 10kg/12kgbag) (Includes fair use of colourants and glazes) Tools and equipment are supplied. Cost of firing included in course fees (excludes-oversized or excessive production)

Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is canceled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
