Course Description

New students receive a thorough introduction into the wonderful world of oil painting while more experienced students will be challenged both technically and conceptually. We will look at pigments, binders and mediums as well as colour, composition and various brush techniques. Our subject matter for this course will be contemporary landscape and still life. About your Tutor: Born in Belgium and based in Perth, Stephanie Reisch is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, researcher and arts educator. Her practice references prehistory and natural phenomena through drawing, painting, sound and digital media. She has exhibited at numerous venues including Free Range Gallery, Margaret River Gallery, Daine Singer (VIC), Linton & Kay, King St Studio, Gallerysmith Project Space (VIC), ArtGeo Complex, Heathcote Museum & Gallery and Perth Galleries. Solo exhibitions include Antelands (Linton & Kay), Water & Stone (Heathcote Gallery), Silent Synchronicity (Mundaring Arts Centre) as well as group show, Contour, at Juniper Galleries in the late Robert Juniper’s studio. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Western Australia and is represented by Linton & Kay Galleries (Perth) and Jahroc Galleries (South West). What to bring: Bring your own Oils and materials, or pay the tutor $60 for all materials supplied. Please advise which option you prefer when enrolling. Oil paints (avoid water miscible) Recommended- Paynes Grey, Titanium White, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Lamp Black. Optional- Cadmium Red, Violet Deep, Pthalo Green Blue, Black, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre (Recommend brands are Art Spectrum or Winsor & Newton) Canvas paper pad (multiple sheets of oil painting paper for weekly studies) 1 x stretched canvas or canvas board (for individual project) Palette knives (stainless steel preferred) Disposable pallete pad recommended An old shirt or apron A couple of old rags A medium sized jar with lid for storing your medium Range of brushes including a medium/large flathead brush, approx. 35mm

Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is canceled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
