Course Description
Slow Stitch is all about enjoying the journey and process of working with needle and thread. Work on projects of your own choice to develop your hand embroidery skills. Perhaps you have a work in progress that needs some attention, or maybe you just want to learn about the ancient craft of embroidery. Come and share our passion for gorgeous threads, interesting stitches, lovely designs and the simple mindful pleasure of hand embroidery. About Tutor: Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes Ann-Marie has been sewing and embroidering for as long as she can remember. She is currently a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild of Western Australia. Ann-Marie undertook a Masterclass in Canvaswork Embroidery and discovered an absolute passion for this form of embroidery. She now runs her own small business, Beautiful Stitches, developing her own canvaswork embroidery designs and teaching sewing and embroidery to both children and adult About the course Embroidery could not be easier to learn. It really is as simple as needle up, needle down. But where are you going to bring your needle up? And what delicious fibres are you going to use? Do you have a story to tell with needle and thread or do you simply want to make beautiful handmade items for your family and friends? This course will teach students the art of colourful, creative embroidery. The emphasis in this course will be on exposing students to a wide range of embroidery techniques including surface stitchery, evenweave embroidery techniques, goldwork and beading, as well as a variety of ethnic embroidery styles. Students can start the course by working a simple introductory project. They will then be free to work on their own embroidery projects drawing on Ann-Marie’s wide experience and varied resources for guidance. Skills taught during the course will include choosing appropriate fabric and threads; getting started on setting up a new project; making up and finishing techniques as required by specific projects; and developing creative confidence in choosing/developing colour schemes and designs. What you need to bring A small pair of sharp scissors suitable for cutting threads; a light and/or magnifier if you normally use these items to assist with your creative pursuits. Terms and Conditions
A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
