Course Description

Create beautiful works of art using discarded textiles. By applying simple techniques, you will learn how to transform your ideas into abstract art whilst simultaneously transforming trash into treasure. About the Course: Do you have a fabric stash that you don’t know what to do with? Do you have clothes that your children have long outgrown and you just can’t let them go? Do you long to play with textiles but are not sure where to start? This course could be for you! In this course, you will learn how to get back to basics and create works of art using some of your favourite textiles. By applying simple techniques, students will be shown how to transform their abstract ideas into wonderful works of art whilst simultaneously transforming trash into treasure. Most of the work will be stitched by hand. Later in the term we can discuss sewing machines for those who are experienced sewers and want to use this tool to extend their approach to creating abstract textile art. About the Tutor: Pip is a multi-disciplinary artist who is currently focused on applying traditional techniques such as applique, embroidery and quilting to create a warm and engaging contemporary look using new, vintage and reclaimed compostable plant-based materials. Pip’s creative pursuits are underpinned by an interest in environmental wellbeing, equality, community, personal stories, colour and repetitive mark-making. Pip has exhibited regularly with her most recent work showing at the Holmes a Court Gallery as part of the WAFTA twentyFIVE+ exhibition. Pip’s work is held in private collections around the world and her studio practice is currently based at Tresillian Arts Centre.
