Working with a life model each week, the artist will guide you through a process for interpreting the human figure, firstly using charcoal, then progressing to pastels and other dry media. Acrylic paints are not used in this class. Life Drawing remains an essential element to a lively art practice and is equally relevant in a contemporary art context as it was at its genesis in the 13th century. As an art form, nude life drawing presents endless challenges to the artist. In the presence of a life model the artist attempts, through simple materials and sensitive gestures, not only to represent physical aspects of the figure but also embody within these marks something of the spirit and personality of the model. At the completion of this course you will learn to think differently to create uniquely. **In Term 4, Ian will be teaching weeks 1, 2 , 7 & 8 as he will be overseas for an exhibition in the middle of the term. Jane Barwell will be teaching weeks 3,4,5 & 6. Jane is a practicing and exhibiting artist, with her most recent exhibition at EarlyWorks in Fremantle, August 2023. Jane and Ian share a similar approach to life drawing and art. About your Tutor: 𝗜𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘇𝗮 is a full time practicing artist and educator with an exhibition history spanning nearly forty years, his most recent being in Singapore, October 2019.
