Angela Davis
Angela is a contemporary realist artist. Her colourful landscapes in both oils and pastels create a sense of escape to beautiful places.
Born in Cooma in the Snowy Mountains high-country of New South Wales, surrounded by bushland on the family sheep property, and encouraged by an array of creative relatives, she has curated an eye for detail in the landscape around her. Her scientific background in biology, geology and particularly palaeontology has added to her understanding of the landscape. Completing her doctorate in her early thirties she moved to Perth in 1994 with her husband.
Travelling on geology field trips, remote bushwalks or just extended time out in the Australian landscape, Angela absorbs the world around her. This is then captured in her sketchbooks or camera and translated into bigger art pieces back in the studio. Utilising oils, pastels, watercolours and acrylics she has explored how different mediums can hold the feeling of a landscape.
Associated with the Tresillian Arts Centre for 25 years as a student, tutor and studio artist, Angela has participated in four solo exhibitions and multiple group exhibitions, at Tresillian, as well as numerous interstate and international shows. She currently paints from the Garage Studio at Tresillian where you can view her art practice.
