T1 Your Style on Canvas– Oil and Acrylic

Course Description

Learn the basics of creating a painting, from choosing your canvas through to the finishing touches. Includes an easy guide to composition, line, tone, colour and paint application, discovering your personal style. There will be different subject matters throughout the course. Bring your own reference images if you have a specific painting you would like to create. Advanced students also welcome. Your Tutor: Art has always been a part of my life, from drawing the things around me as a little girl through to a BA (Fine Arts) Honours Degree where I achieved firsts for painting and design. The vibrant West Australian art world has been an inspiration and I have taught all the different mediums since moving here more than 26 years ago. I have won a number of prizes for my paintings and sold extensively to people returning to a variety of countries. What you need to bring Bring your own reference images if you have a specific painting you would like to create. Samples of materials listed below, however, bring what you have and your tutor will explain what you need. Colours Oils or Acrylics - purchase a quality brand of paint for best results with colour mixing. White Crimson Raw Sienna Lemon Yellow or (optional) Cadmium Yellow Pthalo Blue Ultramarine Blue Cadmium Red (optional) Cerulean Blue Burnt Umber Burnt Sienna Black (optional) and any colours of your choice Brushes A few bristle (hog hair) brushes Each week bring the following - Plastic container Stretched canvas - (good quality advisable) but: inexpensive canvas boards or canvas pads an option especially for beginners. Old rags to wipe your brushes Drawing materials - pencils or crayons or charcoal etc Impasto Gel (available at art shops - optional) Retarder medium (optional for acrylic) Palette - Can be tear off, wood, plastic, large plastic plate etc. * If using oil paint - You will need odourless solvent (e.g Art Spectrum) for cleaning brushes. There is also an oil paint available that is water based! This is about the same price as traditional oil paints. Enquire at Jacksons, Oxlades or other large art shops.


Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
