Tree House by Elmari Steyn

About the Event
This exhibition is an exploration of new ideas, methods and directions; a playful journey into the beauty and balance of nature; tree houses, some deconstructed to their basic elements, nests, sanctuaries, homes and everyday existence amongst trees. Key ideas and images are freedom from care, floating above the ground, day dreaming and playing, with and within the concept of safety and refuge. Nesting in a tree, the air, nature, the environment; every tree house is unique to complement and balance its tree. Each of these trees communicates its individual narrative, character and function. Whether in wild untouched places or in urban settings, often disfigured to fit in with man-made structures; trees retain their individuality, their true form and nature.
This exhibition is predominantly of hand-pulled copper-plate etchings, with medium and large format prints on Fabriano and Archers print-making paper. Japanese Hosho, silk paper and 23 k gold-leaf used as support for small scale work to communicate the flow of gentle moments.
Moving to Australia in 2012, Elmari is continuing her love of the arts as an active Printmaker and jeweller, with her main focus being intaglio printmaking. Her works reflect her love for the environment and wilderness and especially the relationship of individuals within it.
She has participated in multiple exhibitions, national and International, and won a number of Art Awards. During 2015-19, Elmari has been based at her Printing Studio at the Tresillian Arts Centre in Nedlands, WA and has been teaching printmaking classes at the Tresillian and Midland Junction Arts Centres.
