Course Description
This would comprise very loose, gestural acrylic washes with more specific detailing in charcoal and dry pastels. About the Course: BA in Fine Arts (Painting major) 1980 Dip Teaching (Visual Art) 1978 Co-Director of Artelier Provence, offering Art retreats and workshops. Practicing Visual Artist based in France and Australia. Specialist in oil encaustic painting. Exhibitions held in Australia and France. Represented in private collections in Australia, Europe and the USA. My work can be viewed on artelierprovence.com About the Course: Encaustic is an ancient painting method, which predates Renaissance Oil painting. Mixing oil paints with a cold encaustic paste will reveal a versatile medium, which provides both impasto and translucent qualities and is fast drying. This course is an introduction to cold wax oil encaustic, where students will learn the two key methods, Impasto and Glazing. You will also learn colour theory and painting techniques using both brush and palette knives This course would be of great value to experienced oil painters. The main advantages that oil encaustic offers are: rich impasto layering; the much shorter drying time; ability to create a textured surface; translucent qualities when using glazing techniques; the lower cost when the medium is added to your oil paints for an impasto effect. Acrylic paints can be used as a base-layer to add a preliminary colour, contrast and effects. The course will initially entail experimentation exercises, followed by producing artworks which reflect the creative potential of this medium.
