Course Description

Learn how big brushes can create effective watercolour compositions. You will learn the importance of subject and composition, the use of tones, the choice of brushes, the use of colour, the application of the appropriate level of water to paint mixes, the use of highlights and the knowledge of when to stop. About the tutor: I am a watercolour artist and also paint in oils. I am a Fellow of the Watercolour Society of Western Australia and a Member of the Western Australian Society of Arts I have won awards at both of their Annual Exhibitions on numerous occasions and sold many paintings over the years. I have won awards at the Plein Air Down Under on a number of occasions. I have also delivered courses at Tresillian Arts Centre and Melville Atwell gallery. Most of my painting is done outdoors with the Plein Air Painters Group. About the Course: In this course you will learn the use of watercolours to create an alluring painting. You will learn the importance of subject and composition, the use of tones, the choice of brushes, the use of colour, the application of the appropriate level of water to paint mixes, the use of highlights and the knowledge of when to stop. All Levels welcome but beginners need the suggested paints and brushes to make the course worthwhile. Materials: 2 sheets of watercolour paper 300gsm ROUGH as a start (Arches, Fabriano, Saunders or any good quality paper) 1 mechanical pencil (B or 2B) 1 kneadable rubber 1 notebook 1 large plastic water jar, 1 small spray bottle 1 A3 board on which to tape the paper 1 roll of masking tape, 1 watercolour palette with wells of about 2cm x 2cm and large 6cm x 6cm mixing wells, 1 roll of kitchen paper, 2 x round brushes (No.16 and No.12) 1 x size 14 mop brush, At least Art Spectrum Paint or Cotmans paints or any brand you like: 1 tube Cobalt Blue, 1 tube Ultramarine, 1 tube Raw Sienna (Yellow), 1 tube Aureoin (Yellow) 1 tube Cadmium Red1, tube Alizarin Crimson 1 tube Burnt Siennna

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
