Course Description

Introduction to the Art of the Renaissance 1. Background to the Renaissance and its beginnings in the early 14th Century . 2. The early Renaissance in Florence and a look at other cities in the Italy and Europe. 3. The mid-century renaissance artists and the beginnings of the High Renaissance 4. High Renaissance continued and Mannerism. The Renaissance and its legacy The history of Venice as seen through its Art 1. Why does Venice exist ? Venice an overview & The early years 2. The emergence as a world power 3. The golden centuries of Venetian art 4. The fall of the Republic and the emergence as an artistic and tourist mecca. The course will be conducted as a series of talks with slide (using a data projector) presentations. Students are encouraged to enter into discussion. The two hour class includes a coffee-break. No prior knowledge is necessary for the course. No texts are required; however books will be mentioned from time to time for further reading. The students are encouraged simply to relax and enjoy the presentation; they may however like to take notes (handout notes are also supplied) All levels welcome About your Tutor: Richard Gunning completed his BA at Curtin and post-grad studies at the Central School of Art and Design in London. He has had numerous solo exhibitions since 1984 and regular group shows. He is represented in all of the major collections of Western Australia including AGWA, UWA, Wesfarmers Collection and Holmes a Court Collection. Richard has been a tutor in Fine Art and Art History at many institutions including Curtin University, UWA, and Central TAFE, and has also travelled extensively. What to Bring: Notebook and paper (only if they would like to take notes) $7 for photocopied resources

Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
