About your Tutor: "Born and raised in Western Australia, Bec Bartell is an acrylic painter whose practice is deeply inspired by the natural world. Her work draws influence from Baroque and Dutch Golden Age painting, characterised by the use of dramatic lighting, rich tonal contrast, and atmospheric compositions. Bec combines these classical influences with contemporary subject matter, often depicting flora and fauna against dark, moody backdrops. Her work has gained international recognition, including her painting Fairy Tree being featured on the cover of Homecoming by Kate Morton in six countries in 2023. In 2025, her painting Golden Bloom was selected for the French edition, L'enfant du lac. Bec was the inaugural The Next Big Thing national prize from the Toowoomba Gallery in 2023 and has been a finalist in the Bluethumb Art Prize both in 2021 and 2022, along with being a finalist in many local Art Awards in Western Australia."
