Course Description

Oil pastels are portable, low mess, easy to use (once you know how) and can be used on any surface. Come along, have fun and explore! About your Tutor: Narelle has recently returned to her art practice following many years of doing other things, including working in health and the entertainment industry. Describing herself more as a scribbler than a painter, Narelle has embraced oil pastels which when combined with cold wax, enables layering and scraping back to create a unique finish and texture. Narelle is drawn to capturing Australian landscapes, describing the colour, light and movement of grasses, bushland and flora. Narelle has been a finalist in a number of juried exhibitions, including the Perth Royal Art Prize for Landscape in 2022 and her works are held within private and civic collections within Australia and overseas. What to Bring: PASTELS: Any oil pastels you happen to have (please note: oil pastels are NOT dry/soft pastels – these are quite different and covered in other Tresillian courses). If purchasing, preferred brands are Mungyo Gallery ‘Extra Soft’ or Neopastels both available from a variety of sources online (and for a variety of prices- shop around). PAPER: This may be any variety of paper of any thickness, including card. OTHER: Any art materials you have which you may like to use as an “underpainting” – eg watercolour, gouache, ink, acrylic, water-soluble crayons Wetwipes / paper towel Masking tape or bulldog clips Permanent marker, pencil Note: further potential useful materials and surfaces will be discussed at first class.
