Course Description
Discover the vibrant possibilities of soft pastels in this relaxed, supportive course designed for beginners. Whether you’re new to art or returning after a break, Sarah will guide you through the fundamentals while encouraging your own creative voice. About your Tutor: Sarah Pondevie is a multidisciplinary artist working in pastels, oils and mixed media. Her practice is grounded in observation, combining plein air and studio painting. Sarah's teaching focuses on process, experimentation and developing individual artistic expression. Her work has been recognised with awards across oils, pastels and watercolour in both landscape and portraiture. About the Course This course will cover: • How to handle and layer soft pastels • Understanding colour, tone, and value • Seeing in shapes and simplifying what you observe • Basic composition and design principles • Mark-making techniques to create texture and depth Each session will include a short demonstration, guided exercises, and time to work on your own pieces with one-on-one support. The emphasis is on exploration, enjoyment, and developing a strong foundation. Pastels will be provided for class use so you can learn about colours and brands before investing (material fee includes use of the pastels). What you need to bring • A3 Colourfix pastel paper in white or clear (2 per lesson) • Apron • Drawing board • Masking tape • Dog clips Material fee: $50 paid directly to the tutor at the first class to cover fair use of pastels and tools for painting with pastels.

Terms and Conditions
A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
