T4 Contemporary Still Life Painting

Course Description
Whether you are new to still life painting or are seeking ways to extend your existing abilities, this course will give you the skills you are seeking. Learn how to create sophisticated and resolved paintings, with all the detail that makes a still life successful. Beginners will be guided on how to compose your image and draw your composition onto your canvas, how to mix paint colours and given structured steps to complete your painting. Continuing students will be extended in the works they are refining, with differentiated tuition given on an individual basis. Learn how to work out the tonal relationships in your composition using traditional underpainting techniques and then how to build up your painting with colour, progressively adding details to refine your work. You will learn how to create an engaging comp About the Tutor: Kirsten is a Perth-based artist and educator whose work references domestic objects and plants to explore our cultural relationships with each other and to Nature. She has a strong grounding in traditional painting, drawing and sculptural ceramic techniques. She holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts from Edith Cowan University and a Graduate Diploma of Education from The University of Western Australia. What to Bring: You do not need to buy everything before the first class. Please come prepared for the first class with the materials listed for Class 1. Kirsten will talk to you about what you need for the following classes. Please ensure that you have your Tresillian discount cards before purchasing materials from Jackson’s Drawing Supplies. These cards are supplied during Class 1 and will save you money. Class 1: Drawing paper A3 and charcoal or soft 2B and 4B pencils – to take notes and sketch initial ideas Camera - iphone, ipad or DSLR camera. Class 2: Stretched canvas or panel board of your own choice of size. A good size to start with is A3 size. 2B or 4B pencil Ruler Spray fixative Classes 3 – 8: Canvas with underdrawing / underpainting on Bring your own oil or acrylic paints. Discuss with your tutor what colours, mediums, solvents and/or improvers you will need. Palette or disposable palette pad, rags, cotton buds, jar, brushes Med/Lg flathead 15-20mm, soft synthetic brush & smaller brushes for details palette knife, wear old clothes or apron.

Terms and Conditions
A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
