Course Description

Learn how to make beautiful ceramic pieces using the pottery wheel or by handbuilding. Learn the foundations of ceramics. In the class you will also be covering decorating and glazing techniques. About the tutor: After a full career in the education industry, Bev has devoted her time to her love of ceramics and mastering this craft. Bev has worked with many well known ceramics artists at Tresillian and elsewhere, including Kim Gillespie, Carrie Minnich and Robbie Kerr. Bev's interest is primarily working on the wheel but she also enjoys exploring a variety of techniques and looks forward to helping you explore the foundations of ceramics About the course: This course is suitable for beginners. We will explore variety of techniques, depending on individual projects and group dynamics and they may include wheel-throwing, sculpting, hand-building, texturing and decorative techniques, slip trailing, slab-building, coil-building and glazing. Students will be encouraged to experiment, explore and step outside of their comfort zone in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. What students need to bring: Please wear old clothes/apron Old towel Personal clay tools, large plastic bin bags/liners x 2; notebook and pencil. Material fee, paid to tutor at the first class: A $40 material fee, payable to the tutor at the first class. Includes 1 bag of Stoneware clay, fair use of colourants and glazes. Tools and equipment are supplied but students are encouraged to purchase their own small set of clay tools to bring each week. Extra materials and fees discussed in class. The cost of firing is included in the course fees. All works fired on-site must be produced in your Tresillian class, from clay supplied by or approved by your tutor. Works must be under 30cm in any direction to be fired at the Tresillian. Work is fired under TAC studio guidelines. Tresillian Arts Centre endeavours to have all student work fired within 4 weeks of the end of term. TAC staff will email ceramics students to advise when firing from the recent term is completed and available for collection. Please note, completed work will not be kept for more than 3 months as we do not have space to store work.

Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
