Course Description

You will explore the fundamental techniques of traditional ink and wash painting on rice paper, including the disciplined practice of holding and using the brushes. Each week features a new reference subject and students are encouraged to apply the techniques to create their own interpretations and expressive responses. About your Tutor: Chen He, a China-born visual artist now based in Perth, Australia creates evocative works that explore the transient beauty of nature and life's impermanence. Her recent series, Ephemeral Echoes, captures the fluidity of ocean waves and the passing of time. Employing handmade brushes from natural materials and techniques rooted in Chinese ink painting, Chen developed her unique "symbiotic Motion Painting' style, blending Eastern aesthetics with contemporary expression. Her art, celebrated for its reflective depth and innovative form, bridges cultural connections and invites contemplation on nature's cyclical essence.
