Level: Beginner - with Jon Martin
Course Description
Build strong foundations in watercolour and develop the skills and confidence to paint a wide range of subjects. Learn which materials are essential and how to use the techniques unique to watercolour, while exploring the fundamentals of art, including light, shade and colour. Through practical exercises, you will learn to see and mix colour, identify important shapes and create a variety of edges. The course also covers washes, special effects and the painting process, providing a solid foundation for your future watercolour practice. About the tutor: Jon Martin was born in the UK but spent his formative years on a farm in Tasmania, where the vast landscapes ignited his early interest in art. Recognized for his exceptional drawing skills during his school years, Jon's artistic journey took a significant turn a decade ago when he was inspired by a renowned contemporary watercolour artist to explore the world of watercolours. For the past ten years, watercolour painting has been Jon's driving passion. His journey began with intensive learning under the guidance of an international artist for eight years. Additionally, he has enriched his skills by attending numerous workshops over the last four years. This blend of formal mentorship and continuous education has allowed Jon to develop a unique and masterful style. Jon has been actively exhibiting his work for the past four years, during which he has received awards, recognizing his talent and dedication. What to Bring 0.7mm mechanical pencil (2B lead) Soft eraser 2 × #12 synthetic round brushes 30mm hake brush Liner brush (for details) Household sponge, Sea sponge Watertight palette with sealable lid Small towel 40 × 50cm coreflute board or sealed painting panel White packing tape (Bunnings) Water container (250ml+) Paints (15ml artist-quality tubes preferred; pans acceptable) Recommended brands: Holbein, Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton Blues: Ultramarine Deep Blue, Phthalo Blue (YS) Reds: Quinacridone Red, Quinacridone Magenta Yellows: Permanent Yellow Deep, ImidazoloneYellow Other: Titanium White Opaque Watercolour, Neutral Tint Optional: Quinacridone Gold Additional colours can be purchased as needed.

Terms and Conditions
A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
