Philippa Gordon graduated from Curtin University with a BA of Arts Art in 2000 after completing a Diploma of Art (Studio Ceramics) at Perth Central College of Art, Design & Media. Pip is also a Specialist Art and LOTE Japanese Educator, and founder of the creative business Clay + Humans.
Pip draws upon her life experiences, including studies in the Arts, Asian Studies, Japanese language, Biology and Veterinary Nursing, and travels to South East and East Asia, Greece and Turkey. Having spent time in Japan, where Tokyo was home in the early nineties, this Mega-City experience, where Art and Nature pervade life for all still resonate.
Pip utilises clay as a ‘vehicle’ for personal expression, embracing the tactile, meditative, and cathartic nature of working in the medium. With an ever-evolving approach Pip’s practice is an exploration of form and surface, utilising a wide range of methods, glazes and techniques such as impressing, MISHIMA (inlay), casting, wheel-work, hand-building and casting.
Philippa’s work is held in private collections in Australia, Switzerland, Germany, America, England, New-Zealand, and Japan.
