Course Description
Over the term, you’ll experiment with indigo and other dyes, surface design, and add texture and colour through simple hand stitching. We will cover stencil-based screen printing on fabric, sashiko-inspired stitching methods and discuss composition and layering for textile design. Your final textile piece could be a wall hanging, small quilt, cushion cover or tote bag. About your Tutor: Tanya Cain-Abbs Tanya is an established West Australian textile artist with more than 20 years of creative practice and the founder of the homewares brand Old Grey House. Her work explores natural dyeing and shibori techniques, informed by a deep respect for Australian landscapes and an appreciation of Indigenous art practices. What you need to bring 1–2 metres light coloured cotton or linen (pre washed) Embroidery threads (Cotton) + needles Basic sewing tools Material fee $25 paid directly to the tutor to cover the cost of: Indigo, fabric inks, screens and squeegee. Terms and Conditions
A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
