Course Description
Watercolour is a medium that rewards spontaneity — and this course is designed to help you find it. Over eight weeks, you'll explore the techniques that define loose, expressive watercolour painting: wet-on wet washes, bold brushwork, editing with confidence, and learning when to put the brush down. Drawing inspiration from the Australian landscape and everyday scenes, each session builds your skills while encouraging you to develop your own artistic voice. You'll learn to see your subject differently — looking for mood, light and atmosphere rather than detail — and translate that onto the page with freedom and confidence. Whether you're returning to watercolour after a break or looking to shake off years of careful, tight painting, this course will challenge you to let go, embrace the unexpected, and rediscover the joy of painting. About your Tutor: Liz Wright is a software developer who would like to put away the keyboard forever and retire to her studio. Starting her painting journey in high school, and in particular, watercolour, she dreamed of becoming a professional artist. After school, life got in the way and she didn’t pick up a paintbrush for more than 30 years, until she decided that it was finally time to get back into it. With much support from her family she took the plunge and enrolled in a watercolour class where she began exploring the different styles of watercolour. She describes her style as “Loose and expressionist with a passion for capturing the Australian Landscape”, and draws inspiration from early Australian impressionists. Liz is an avid traveller that captures scenes from her life experiences that often become the inspiration for her art. About the Course The course covers all aspects of painting, utilising the special qualities of acrylics which show a large diversity that can liken them to oils as well as watercolours.
