Course Description

This ongoing pastels course is designed for artists of all experience levels with step-by-step demonstrations covering specific landscape elements such as rocks, rivers, trees, clouds and beach scenes. You will receive individual feedback and direction to help move your work forward, wherever you’re at. About your Tutor: Sarah Pondevie is a multidisciplinary artist working in pastels, oils and mixed media. Her practice is grounded in observation, combining plein air and studio painting. Sarah's teaching focuses on process, experimentation and developing individual artistic expression. Her work has been recognised with awards across oils, pastels and watercolour in both landscape and portraiture. About the Course The course will cover: • Translating reference images into expressive paintings • Learn how to simplify a reference into big shapes • Strengthening composition and design • Develop confident pastel techniques and layering • Expanding colour awareness and tonal control Sarah will share her curated palette of brands and colours to create harmonious paintings. Please note, if you use your own collection, your results will differ. What you need to bring • A3 Colourfix pastel paper in white or clear (minimum 1 per lesson) • Quality pastels - not Mungyo, and sets aren’t advisable, see list • Stabilo CarbOthello 1400/704 (or close, keep to the grey scale) • Apron • Drawing board • Masking tape • Dog clips Material Fee: $10 paid to the tutor at the first session for specific painting tools with pastels.

Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
